1) Real Company - In today's world, a company without a website is a company without a face. Without a website a company does not look legitimate.

2) Dependency - Building your own database of users, clients, names. What will you do if tomorrow LinkedIn or Facebook closes your page and you are left with no database of your own? You will be lost. You must maintaing control of your database of customers.

3) Search - people today still search Google when looking for things - a hotel in Paris, a new coffee-maker, etc. You want to be high up in those Google search results when they do their searching.

4) Proof of Life - create a blog or newsfeed on your site enables you to make name for yourself and prove that your company is still active and alive. Many people will look at dates on your site, if your last updated information was from 2008, they will move on.

Its all about the cross-promotion, of your different aspects of your business. Your website should link to your facebook, your facebook should promote your website blog. Your blog should talk about what you said on Twitter. Interconnection of information, some would call it a "web" of information.

Bottom line is we now live in a connected world, if you business is not part of that connection, you don't exist.
